"Go therefore and make disciples of all the

nations, baptizing them

in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit,

teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and

lo, I am with you always, even to the end of

the age."

“For when you were slaves of sin, you were free in regard to righteousness.  What fruit did you have then in the things of which you are now ashamed?  For the end of those things is death.  But having been set free from sin, and having become slaves of God, you have your fruit to holiness, and the end, everlasting life.  For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 6:20-23 New King James Version)

It’s that time of the year when we all begin to examine ourselves.  We look at the year past and ahead to the new year.  For some of us we like to set little goals, or resolutions to better our lives.

Many of us have thought about or have even decided that they will begin a diet and exercise program with the new year.  Or perhaps maybe some have decided to kick an old habit.  Some may have decided that this year they are going to change a behavior or attitude.  It seems as though a good bit of our resolutions are based upon the things that enslave us.

Paul reminds us in Romans that we are no longer slaves to sin.  What freedom that is!  But as I read this passage I must ask myself, am I being a slave of God?  Westwood, are we slaves of God?

I’m not suggesting that we aren’t.  But I would like to make a suggestion; perhaps we can make a conscience resolution to be slaves of God.  Let’s allow God to work in our lives this year without the hindrance of fear and worry.  We can trust Him as our one true master!  Let’s pray for and encourage each other as we all work together for the kingdom.  If we resolve to do this, 2012 will be a year like no other!
