Dean's Dispatch
As we begin another year, I have great hopes and great expectations for 2012. I really don't have many tangible ideas for what may come in the new year, but I am certain the Lord will continue to bless His church here in Westwood and I am confident that He will use our meager efforts to glorify Himself.
I realize there may be many goal-setters who might misunderstand my lack of specifics. My main goal, however, is not to preach a certain number of sermons, attend a specific number of revival meetings, see an exact percentage of growth in the congregation's membership, or even to see a precise number of baptisms. While I pray these may come to pass, my hopes and expectations for the coming year are centered on the work of the Holy Spirit in my life, the life of my family, and the life of this congregation and community.
In Romans 8:14, the apostle Paul wrote, :For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God." NAS95. To truly be "sons of God," we must allow His Spirit to lead us. He will lead us through the written Word, through the guidance of godly people, and through His divine providence. But, we must be willing and open to following His leading.
I am not advocating a congregation without plans, ideas, or strategies; I am merely suggesting we, as Christians, allow the Spirit who dwells within our lives to be active in the daily struggles and decisions of our lives. As we permit the power of God at work in our lives, our ministries, and our community. For His ultimate glory, He will lead us to greater heights than we could ever imagine!
May we bless the Lord with our very lives in 2012!
Because
He lives,
Dean
